Formally, a square rug fits best under a square table. With a round table, the combination looks dynamic, the square beneath the curve creates a deliberate contrast.
In the bedroom, 300x300 cm works equally well: if the rug protrudes at least 60 cm on both sides of the bed, a balanced look is achieved and you step onto a soft surface in the morning.
Material for a large surface: wool, low pile, or synthetic

- Wool: The natural lanolin layer repels dirt, meaning the rug needs cleaning less often. Wool is antistatic, regulates the indoor climate, and dampens footfall noise, a plus in large, echo-prone rooms. With prolonged moisture it dries slowly, so it belongs in dry living spaces.
- Low pile: Pile height up to 15 mm, dense and flat surface. Easy to care for because dirt has less room to hide, and the vacuum cleaner glides over it easily. Viscose looks elegant but absorbs moisture for a long time and is less hardwearing, making it more of a second choice for such a large everyday surface.
